Museum of International Folk Art: The Girard Collection

image

According to the museum’s website, this collection is unique not only because of it’s size (more than 100,000 objects), but also it’s breadth: more than 100 countries on six continents are represented. It’s also unique because the donor, architect, interior and textile designer Alexander Girard designed the exhibition itself.  He arranged everything as he wanted, and it never changes.

This picture, above, was my favorite thing today (out of the 100,000!) This tiny little fabric store!

Mr. Girard was fascinated by amulets. Ther was a large display of them from many different countries.

There was also a big display of antique samplers, the collection was begun by Mr. GIrard’s grandfather.
